Our much-loved shop opened its revamped doors on Wednesday in a new location on Heol Pentrerhedyn.
The shop is 20% larger than before with an all-new library room boasting 2,000 books and over 1,000 square foot stocked with goods.
Over 200 families from Mid Wales received our care in the past year and we hope the new premises will raise more funds to provide even more care.
Lord-lieutenant of Powys, Tia Jones, cut the ribbon and led with a speech praising the community for its ongoing support of us.
She said: “Thanks to the people of Mid Wales, Severn Hospice has been able to care for 239 local people in the past year.
“Last year, some 170,000 bags of donations were transformed into care thanks to shops like this one, and communities like Machynlleth.”
We have been part of Machynlleth for over 15 years and proud to continue our residency in a new home, bringing an empty building back to life.
2019 marks 30 years since we opened our first ward in Shrewsbury. And since then we have helped more than 34,000 families in Mid Wales, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin living with an incurable illness.
With an increased offering, we are appealing for donations and more volunteers to help throughout the week.
Our head of retail, Ross, said: “With a bigger building and more stock to sort, we need more people who have some spare free time to join our mission and help out in the shop.
“Our 27 community shops, including three in Mid Wales – Llanidloes, Welshpool and Mach – contributed more than £1 million a year towards hospice care.
“It is thanks to every person who donates preloved goods, or volunteers their precious time that we are able to provide comforting care and emotional support to families when they need it most.”
