Four years ago, we opened a café, Refresh at Severn Hospice, at our Shrewsbury hospice site. We wanted to create a place where everyone was welcome, not just patients and their families, a space for coming together for a good chat over a great cuppa.
And thanks to everyone who’s embraced us, the café has become more than just a coffee spot. It’s a buzzing hub that welcomed more than 35,000 customers last year – whether they were stopping by for a hot drink, a delicious bite, or simply a friendly smile.
Expanding
Our Refresh isn’t just about coffee and cake. It helps break down perceptions of what a hospice building is, and we are so pleased that we’ve been able to expand way beyond our doors. We have hosted dozens of family-friendly events, catered for private gatherings and have taken our mission on the road. If you’ve been to any number of events across the patch, you’ll have seen us serving up the best hot drinks and tasty food, all while spreading the word about Severn Hospice.
Kay Britton, our Head of Hospitality and Estates, said: “It’s been amazing to see our café take off and become so popular in our community. Our customers have been absolutely fantastic from the start, and have an incredible behind-the-counter team.
The hospice kitchen staff whip up the most delicious cakes and our baristas and volunteers go above and beyond to create that warm, welcoming Refresh atmosphere.”
Time to celebrate
To mark the café’s fourth birthday, we’re refreshing Refresh with a new streamlined menu and adding a pop of colour – thanks to MyWorkwear, who generously donated 20 vibrant aprons to our team as part of their ongoing support for Severn Hospice.
And because no birthday is complete without a treat, we’re inviting you to join the celebrations on Saturday 15 February. Buy a hot drink, and you’ll get a free cupcake!
The café is open from 9am until 4.30pm – expect a warm atmosphere, friendly faces, and lots of cheer.
