The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Telford and Wrekin Council are set to form a chain gang with a difference as they prepare to step out in support of Severn Hospice.
Cllr Stephen Reynolds and Cllr Rajash Mehta will be swapping their mayoral robes for walking boots when they join hundreds of supporters walking the 17 miles between our sites in Shrewsbury and Telford on 9th September.
The Severn Stride explores some of the beautiful Shropshire countryside between our two hospices helping to raise awareness and much-needed funds for our cause.
Cllr Stephen Reynolds, Mayor and hospice volunteer, said: “I have seen first-hand the difference Severn Hospice makes, as a patient and as a volunteer. During my year as Mayor I want to do all I can to highlight the vital work of the hospice and help raise a few pounds along the way so more local people can benefit from this wonderful service.
“It’s been a while since I have walked 17 miles but I am looking forward to the challenge and seeing this beautiful county from a different vantage point.
“I am delighted Raj will be joining me for the Severn Stride, he is an ambassador for health and wellness as well as being a champion of hospice care within the Asian community.”
Cllr Rajash Mehta will also be walking with his wife Dr Poonam Mehta who is a local GP.
He said: “I have personally committed to raising £10,000 for Severn Hospice through a number of different events and this walk is the first of those. I’ve got lots more plans for how I can help the hospice and I’d like to thank everyone who’s already supporting my challenge of raising money for a charity that does so much within the local community.”
This year the walk will be start at Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury and finishing at our site in Telford. People will be able to leave their cars at the finishing point and catch the shuttle bus service to the starting point.
Registration for the Severn Stride is £15 for adults and £10 for children. Anyone under the age 16 must be accompanied by an adult whilst out on the route.
