When it was suggested that I attend the Day unit at Severn Hospice I immediately thought doom and gloom. I was very apprehensive at going but I need not have worried.
Transport was arranged and the driver was very chatty and by the time we arrived I have calmed down.
I was made welcome by Sister Clare with a hug and a kiss. I was introduced to the volunteers. Everyone was very friendly and over a cup of tea and biscuits we were soon talking and laughing. Later on I saw Dr Ros and discussed my health problems. Then I was let loose to enjoy myself with a bit of craft work on a collage. I got a manicure, a hairdo and reflexology.
Lunch time was a surprise as there was a bar (drinks trolley) with sherry, port, beer, wine, fruit juice etc. It was as good as the Ritz. We had a lovely dinner with lovely people and there was no washing up!
After a quick snooze we walked around the gardens and then played a quiz. Soon it was time for tea and cake before going home. I found I was looking forward to next Friday and now it can’t come quick enough.
This is a wonderful place full of love, laughter and compassion. Feeling down? There’s always someone on hand to have a chat and there is a service once a month which brings a lot of comfort to all who attend and we pray for all- friends, family and patients.
My collage is now in the sanctuary here.
