Our group of committed runners are in the final stages for race day: when they take on the TCS London Marathon this weekend.

The race, which has seen more than 1 million people take part since it began in 1981 and will be watched around the world.

And our Gold Bond runners are doing it all for us; to thank us for the support, care and compassion we gave their loved ones when they needed it most.

Sore feet

They have been training for many months, braving the weather, racking up the miles and dealing with injuries including sore feet and blisters.

Over the years, runners from all walks of life have completed the 26.2mile route and raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for us. Their support has been incredible, and their generosity has helped fund the care and support we provide to thousands of people living with incurable illness in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales.

Tracie Harrison, director of income generation, said: “We are in awe of their dedication, and we will be with this year’s runners every step of the way.

Best

“Choosing our Gold Bond runners, who went through a rigorous selection process, this year was so hard, but we know they will all do their absolute best.

“To read their stories and understand how we have touched their lives was humbling. We know that the work we do here at Severn Hospice is outstanding but to read the impact our nursing staff had on individuals brings it all home.

“We will be with them in the run up to the race and on the day itself – offering support and enthusiasm when they need it: we will be right behind them.

Devotion

“All of our supporters are amazing in whatever they do for us, and we are so grateful to them. But to take on the most iconic marathon in the world shows total commitment. They will train in all weathers, go through dozens of pairs of trainers, suffer from broken toenails and sore legs all for us. That shows complete dedication and devotion.”

All the runners have links to the hospice – one is a community nurse who has seen first-hand the care and love our teams provide while others have experienced our care for their parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends.
