Shoppers in Welshpool have voted the Severn Hospice outlet as one of their favourites – and now our Welshpool shop is in the running for a top national award.

Severn Hospice shop on High Street has been shortlisted for The UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Award. The new award is a part of the Charity Retail Association’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

It was one of six shortlisted in Wales from almost 6,500 nominations across the UK and will now be the subject of a popular vote.

Supporting vital care

The Welshpool shop is one of the our 32 fundraising outlets that jointly raise more than £1 million towards the specialist care we provide to local people.

Carla Siswick, our head of retail, expressed her joy about the nomination – and urged supporters to vote for it to win: “We are thrilled that local people appreciate our shop so much that they’ve got us even this far.

“Their support honours the hard work of our team. It plays a crucial role in helping us raise vital funds needed to provide care for people living with incurable illness across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and North Powys.”

Local support

Since opening its doors in 1995, the Welshpool shop has become a beloved part of the community, known for its welcoming atmosphere and high-quality offerings. This nomination is a timely recognition of its longstanding contribution to the local area.

Customers who nominated the shop praised the friendly staff and volunteers, the beautifully presented stock and window displays, and the high-quality stock. All of these make the Severn Hospice shop stand out.

Reflecting on the shop’s impact, Carla added, “Our Welshpool shop has been serving the community for nearly 30 years, and we’re overjoyed to know that people enjoy shopping with us. Issy, our shop manager, leads a fantastic team of dedicated staff and volunteers whose hard work truly shines through. They create a welcoming environment for everyone who visits – and her team is always open for new volunteers!”

Cast your vote

As the competition moves into the public voting phase, charity shop supporters can vote for their favourite until 23 September. Regional winners will be announced in the coming weeks, with the overall winner receiving The UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Award at a special event in November.

Carla encourages supporters to cast their votes: “If you’ve enjoyed shopping with us, we would greatly appreciate your vote. And if you haven’t visited yet, we warmly invite you to explore our wonderful shop in Welshpool.”
