We have a talented team of artists who hold sessions at our hospices throughout the year allowing people to explore and develop their creativity.
Many of our patients discover a talent they never knew they had and, in turn, this boosts their confidence, brings great comfort and allows them to feel in control.
We have been working with two national and regional organisations to provide reading and music workshops: The Reader and Music Anywhere. These groups have secured grants, allowing them to provide the workshops free of charge to us.
The Reader has 1,000 volunteers and partners nationwide that bring thousands of people together each week to share and discuss great novels, short stories and poems.
Music Anywhere strives to enhance people’s lives, because they believe that music makes people better, in all ways.
Holly is our creative therapist in Day Services and she works closely with our volunteers Wilf, Paul, Karen and Di who share their artistic and craft expertise with our patients. We have sessions including lino printing, watercolour painting, pastels and acrylics. At Christmastime, a local florist demonstrates wreath and posy making.
All sessions are by referral. Once referred, a booking will be made on to the four-week workshop you wish to participate in. The music and reading sessions last 90 minutes while the other workshops last two hours. Workshops are available at both Apley and Bicton.
The sessions are suitable for anyone, whether they are creative or not and everyone is made welcome. 1:1 sessions are possible.
