European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care (ECEPC)

The European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care (ECEPC) is a highly respected palliative care course. A course that is intended towards medical, nursing staff, paramedics, and Allied Health Professionals who would like a qualification in palliative care. This is an accredited course (15 credits at level 6 study).

The ECEPC is a distance -learning course, that runs over nine weeks in the spring and the autumn. Delegates wishing to complete the course need to be qualified in their field and have direct contact with patients receiving palliative/End-of-life care.

The ECEPC was developed by Princess Alice Hospice in 2001. A course that is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals who are new to specialist palliative care. Assisting them to establish a strong foundation of knowledge on which they can build their specialist knowledge.

Course Information

• It is a nine -week self-directed course.
• The course requires at least 50 hours of study.
• Assessment of the course includes
  • Successful completion of a portfolio
  • Written exam
  • VIVA assessment
• Each candidate will be allocated a facilitator to support them with their portfolio.
• Each candidate will receive an extensive course workbook and access to a virtual learning site via Princess Alice Hospice.

The course will conclude with an assessment day, which is mandatory for all candidates to attend. It is, therefore, essential that you are available for the assessment day. This is something you will need to consider prior to applying to the course.

The cost of the course is £500 per candidate.
