Shrewsbury

The Severn Hospice – Shrewsbury is based in Bicton Heath on the western side of Shrewsbury close to the A5.

How to get to the Hospice by car
The Hospice is best approached from the A5-Shrewsbury bypass.

From north Wales, and north-west Shropshire head south on the A5 through Oswestry, following signs for Shrewsbury.

From south Shropshire and south Wales head south on the A49 following signs for Shrewsbury. Just after Bayston Hill, head north on the A5 following signs for Oswestry.

From the Midlands, Telford and east Shropshire head west on the M54. Stay on the road as the M54 ends and becomes the A5. Follow the A5 around Shrewsbury following signs to Oswestry.

From the north, head south on the A49. Join the A5 at the Shrewsbury bypass and continue around Shrewsbury on the A5 following signs to Shrewsbury.

Directions from the A5
At the junction with the A5 and the A458, head towards Shrewsbury following signs for Oxon Park and Ride.

After one mile you will pass a Co-Op supermarket on your left. Do not turn left for the Park and Ride but continue towards Shrewsbury for a further half a mile, passing the Grapes pub on the right hand side of the road.

Take the first exit at the first roundabout you come to and enter the Oxon Business Park.

Drive straight through the business park then pass a care home to your right. The Hospice is at the end of this road.

If you are visiting a patient, please park in first car park you come to.

All other visitors should follow the road around the building and park in the large car park to the rear of the Hospice. On very busy days an overflow car park is also available.

Please go to reception at the front of the Hospice to sign in.

How to get to the Hospice by bicycle from Shrewsbury
The Hospice is very close to National Cycle Route 81.

Follow route 81 from the centre of Shrewsbury until the junction with the Welshpool road. You can recognise this junction because there is a large, white water tower above the road at this point and route 81, which has been off-road on the pavement, rejoins the road at this junction.

Take the left-hand road (signposted to Welshpool). There is no cycle track on this road. After a few hundred yards take the third exit from the roundabout. Cycle straight through the business park. The Hospice is at the end of this road and there is a short stretch of off-road cycle track as you approach the Hospice.

Follow the road to the rear of the Hospice and secure your bicycle in the shelter next to the Hospice car park.

How to get to the Hospice by bus from Shrewsbury
No buses call at the Hospice and the nearest bus stops half a mile away. Take Arriva Bus service 70 from Shrewsbury bus station. Leave the bus at the Shelton Hospital stop on the Welshpool Road. Walk along Clayton Way through the business park and carry straight on past the Severn Hospice sign to the end of the lane. The Hospice is at the end of the lane.

How to get to the Hospice by train
The nearest train station is Shrewsbury. The station is three miles by road from the Hospice.

There are direct trains to Shrewsbury from Hereford, south Wales, Manchester, Crewe, Wrexham, Aberystwyth, Birmingham and London Marylebone.

You will find a taxi rank immediately outside Shrewsbury station. A typical fare to the Hospice would be around £5.

Telford

The Severn Hospice – Telford is based in Apley on the northern side of Telford close to the A442.

From the motorway network
From the Midlands, take the M54 heading west (for Telford and Shrewsbury) to Junction 6
From Wales and Shrewsbury, leave Shrewsbury on the A5 following signs for Telford, Birmingham and Wolverhampton. Join the M54 and travel to Junction 6

Exit the motorway at Junction 6 and follow signs for Whitchurch. Keep following signs to Whitchurch on the A5223 for several miles, going straight ahead at several roundabouts.

Once you have passed the Princess Royal Hospital look for a road junction on the right. This is signposted for the Hospice. Turn right into Apley Castle and the Hospice is first on the right. If you miss the turning continue straight on to the nearby Shawbirch roundabout with the Shell Garage and Travel Lodge and return.

From Kidderminster and Bridgnorth
Take the A442 signposted Telford and Whitchurch. Stay on the A442 through Telford. On the northern edge of Telford you will pass the Maxell factory on your left. Take the first exit from the next roundabout and the next left into Apley Castle, which is signposted for the Hospice. The Hospice is the first turn on the right.

From Whitchurch
Take the A41 signposted Wolverhampton. At the Tern Hill roundabout take the third exit on to the A53, signposted Shrewsbury. At the Espley roundabout take the A442 signposted Telford. At the Shawbirch roundabout continue straight over to the A5223. Take the first turning on the left for Apley Castle and the Hospice is first on the right.

From Stafford
Take the A518 towards Telford. You will briefly have to join the A41 towards Wolverhampton between two roundabouts but will otherwise stay on the A518 following signs for Telford for just over 15 miles. Remain on the A518 as signs direct you towards Telford Town Centre then at Trench Lock Interchange take the fourth exit to join the A442 towards Whitchurch. On the northern edge of Telford you will pass the Maxell factory on your left. Take the first exit from the next roundabout and the next left into Apley Castle, which is signposted for the Hospice. The Hospice is the first turn on the right.

How to get to the Hospice by bicycle from Telford Town Centre
The Hospice is close to Route 81. Follow route 81 towards Wellington

How to get to the Hospice by train
The nearest train station is Wellington. The station is two miles by road from the Hospice.

There are direct trains to Wellington from Shrewsbury, Aberystwyth, Birmingham and London Marylebone.

You will find a taxi rank immediately outside Wellington station. A typical fare to the Hospice would be around £4.50.

Newtown

The Severn Hospice – Newtown is based in the grounds of the Mongtomery County Infirmary on the northern side of Newtown.

The address is Hafan Day Hospice, Montgomery County Infirmary, Llanfair Road, Newtown, Powys SY16 2DW

How to get to the Hospice by car

From Welshpool
Take the A 483 to Newtown.

As you enter Newtown you pass Morrisons on the left and Little Chef on the right. Drive into Newtown. At the roundabout take the third exit signposted for the Hospital. Cross the river Severn and continue through houses. After half a mile turn right immediately before All Saints Church. Hafan is on the left in the grounds of the Montgomery County Infirmary.

From Churchstoke
Take the A489 to Newtown. As you enter Newtown you cross the railway line. Take the second exit from the roundabout signposted for the Hospital. Cross the river Severn and continue through houses. After half a mile turn right immediately before All Saints Church. Hafan is on the left in the grounds of the Montgomery County Infirmary.

From Llandrindod Wells
Take the A483 to Newtown. In Newtown follow signs for Welshpool and the Railway Station. Go straight over the lights and at the roundabout take the first exit signposted for the Hospital. Cross the river Severn and continue through houses. After half a mile turn right immediately before All Saints Church. Hafan is on the left in the grounds of the Montgomery County Infirmary.

How to get to the Hospice by bicycle
Newtown is on National Cycle Route 81.

Leave route 81 at the point where The Cambrian Way crosses the River Severn and the cycle path. Follow the Cambrian Way away from the roundabout and through houses. After half a mile turn right immediately before All Saints Church. Hafan is on the left in the grounds of the Montgomery County Infirmary.

How to get to the Hospice by train
The nearest train station is Newtown. There are direct trains to Newtown from Aberystwyth, Shrewsbury and Birmingham.
