Acceptable Behaviour

This section talks about the sort of behaviour and language that is acceptable and not acceptable within Severn Hospice and when working with the Hospice. This applies to everyone, including our staff and volunteers.

The overwhelming majority of the patients that we care for, and their friends and family members, treat eachother, our team and their fellow patients with respect. If you think that anyone from the Hospice or a patient or visitor has breached these standards, please make a complaint either informally to a nurse or other member of the Hospice team or through the website feedback button at the bottom of the page.

Within the Hospice

We work hard to make sure that the Hospice is a friendly, welcoming and warm environment. We also work hard to make sure that the Hospice is a safe and secure environment for all our patients, their friends and their relatives as well as our staff and volunteers. Please respect this and, for example, avoid shouting or holding loud conversations without respecting the rights of others around you.

There are some sorts of behaviour that we cannot allow at all in or around our Hospices. In particular we will not tolerate: threatening or abusive language involving excessive swearing or offensive remarks, derogatory racial or sexual remarks, offensive sexual gestures or behaviours, violence or threats of violence. We will not tolerate theft, wilful damage of Hospice property or malicious allegations made against staff, volunteers, patients or visitors. We will not tolerate smoking outside designated areas, drug dealing, alcohol or drug abuse.

We will take action to tackle unacceptable behaviour including removing people from the Hospices and, if necessary, involving the Police.

On the phone and in your own home

We may be providing services to you in your home or over the phone. Our staff and volunteers are well trained and very experienced and they understand that our patients and their carers can often be under a great deal of pressure. Even so, they have the right to be treated with respect at all times. We will not tolerate behaviour or language that is threatening or offensive.

If you are receiving care or support in your own home please do not smoke or allow anyone else to smoke around our staff or volunteers.
