Volunteering for the Hospice

This page gives information on volunteering for Severn Hospice.

We are only able to provide the high quality of care that we do because of the dedication and commitment of hundreds of volunteers who give their time freely.

There are several areas of the Hospice which rely upon volunteers.

Trustees

The Hospice is run by a board of voluntary Trustees. They take the key strategic decisions about our future, monitor the work of the staff and volunteers and check that we are consistently providing the very highest level of care.

We do not currently have any vacancies for Trustees but will advertise them on this website when they arise.

Volunteers working in our Hospices in Shrewsbury, Telford and Newtown

Severn Hospice hasan incredible army of volunteers who truly make a difference. They vary widely in age and background and are greatly valued for their diverse talents, skills and commitment.

Volunteers are the bedrock of the Hospice which benefits from their involvement through increased support helping us to give care to those most vulnerable in our community.

Just some of the benefits of volunteering

  • Personal pride and achievement whilst helping others
  • A chance to make friends
  • Increase self esteem and confidence
  • Learn new skills that may help you find a pathway to work

Volunteers in our Hospice Shops

Over 400 people help to make it possible for us to care for people by working as volunteers in our shops. There’s a lot to do in our shops, with something to suit most tastes. If you have a passion for fashion then sorting clothes might be for you. If retailing is your thing, then helping the customers, pricing stock, or working on the till could be right for you. Helping out at events

Plenty of people raise money for us by taking part in one of our events. These events are only successful because of the teams of volunteers who help us to set up, dismantle, register people and act as stewards and marshals.

If you are interested in helping out at an event, please visit the Event Volunteer Team page.

Organising events in your local community

We are very grateful that so many people across Shropshire, Telford and Montgomeryshire give up their free time to organise quizzes, sponsored silences, walks, fashion shows and other events for us. Some of them get so addicted to fundraising they go on to join or form organised Support Groups.
