Volunteering for the Hospice
This page gives information on volunteering for Severn Hospice.
We are only able to provide the high quality of care that we do because of the dedication and commitment of hundreds of volunteers who give their time freely.
There are several areas of the Hospice which rely upon volunteers.
Trustees
The Hospice is run by a board of voluntary Trustees. They take the key strategic decisions about our future, monitor the work of the staff and volunteers and check that we are consistently providing the very highest level of care.
If you are interested in volunteering as a Trustee please visit the Trustees’ page.
Volunteers working in our Hospices in Newtown, Shrewsbury and Telford
Volunteers work alongside our professional caring staff and work directly with our patients, relatives and visitors, giving support and companionship when needed. Volunteers also tend our lovely gardens, making sure that our patients and their visitors can relax in a beautiful environment.
All volunteers have access to training that is designed to enhance their own approach.

If you are interested volunteering in our Hospices please visit the Hospice Volunteer Team page.
Volunteers in our Hospice Shops
Over 400 people help to make it possible for us to care for people by working as volunteers in our shops. There’s a lot to do in our shops, with something to suit most tastes. If you have a passion for fashion then sorting clothes might be for you. If retailing is your thing, then helping the customers, pricing stock, or working on the till could be right for you. Helping out at events
Plenty of people raise money for us by taking part in one of our events. These events are only successful because of the teams of volunteers who help us to set up, dismantle, register people and act as stewards and marshals.
If you are interested in helping out at an event, please visit the Event Volunteer Team page.
Organising events in your local community
We are very grateful that so many people across Shropshire, Telford and Montgomeryshire give up their free time to organise quizzes, sponsored silences, walks, fashion shows and other events for us. Some of them get so addicted to fundraising they go on to join or form organised Support Groups.

If you would like to organise an event, please visit our Information for Event Organisers page.
If you would like to form or join a Severn Hospice Support Group in your area, please visit the Support Groups page.
Working parties
Local businesses often complete a big project at the Hospice as a way to promote team building and to develop communication and management skills.
