Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon 2011

 We had another fantastic team enter the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon on Sunday 11 September. Despite the wind facing the runners as they completed the 13 mile course, they all did an amazing job. The times ranged from 1 hour, 28 minutes to 3 hours and 18 minutes and we were delighted to be there to welcome everyone back and hear their experiences of the race.

Some of  our team of runners were rewarded with a sports massage as they crossed the finish line, provided by Angus Harvey-Smith of  AHS Sports Therapy, which was very gratefully received.

Our own team of fifty runners were resplendent in their navy blue t-shirts as they set off up the hill from Llanwddyn to cross the spectacular Vyrnwy dam. The Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon is quite unique in that it does not have a major sponsor and is organised by local people giving up their own time for the benefit of their community. This homemade feel to the race is a big part of the attraction for many competitors who travel from all over the country to take part.

Thank you to Janet Roberts, Race Director and all of the Llanwddyn Road Races Committee for a wonderful day. An extra special thanks goes to the athletes who trained tirelessly in order to take part in the race and who have worked so hard to raise much needed funds for Severn Hospice.  As always, Severn Hospice relies on events like the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon to raise essential funds so that we can continue to care for our patients across Shropshire and Mid Wales.

You are also very welcome to bring it into our Hospices in Shrewsbury or Telford.
