The Great Big Bike Ride 2012

The annual Great Big Bike Ride returns on Sunday 2 September 2012. The popular bike ride will once again start from Shawbury, with routes of 50km and 100km exploring the glorious Shropshire countryside.

After the wonderful feedback we had last year we will be keeping the same routes while improving the signage that guides riders around the courses.

The 50km route explores the rural villages of Poynton, Roden, Rodington, Longdon on Tern and Muckleton. This route is only open to cyclists over 14 years. Anyone under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Registration for the 50km ride is £12.50 and raising sponsorship is a condition of entry.

The 100km route goes through Attingham, Berrington, Eaton Constantine, Great Wytheford and Rodington. It is only open to the over-18s and participants must be experienced cyclists. Registration for the 100km route is £25 and raising sponsorship is optional (though encouraged!).

The rides mainly follow winding back lanes through Shropshire. All cycling is on-road.  The routes have been designed by The Bicycle Hub, who can be contacted on 01952 883 249 and will be happy to answer any questions about the routes, the best type of bike to use and the level of fitness required.
