Daffodil Ride

LucyThe Daffodil Ride on Sunday 28 March is brand new for 2010. It is the ideal event for families, for anyone who owns a bike but rarely rides, and for anyone who would enjoy exploring a beautiful stretch of Shropshire countryside.

(Anybody looking for a bigger challenge can join our London to Paris ride or keep an eye out for details of the 100 mile Cambrian Crusade on 31 July and the 50km / 100km Great Big Bike Ride on 5 September. Details to follow soon!)

Riders will have a choice of a six mile or a 12 mile route, and can start and finish in either Jackfield or Bridgnorth. The routes mainly follow Route 45, with just small sections on quiet stretches of rural roads. When you register you will be asked to chose a route so that we have an idea of numbers, but you will be able to change on the day.

On the day, riders can sign in between 9.30am and must have completed their chosen route by 12.30pm. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants in Bridgnorth, Jackfield and Ironbridge so you can make a day of it by cycling up an appetite for Sunday lunch.

You will be given a route description and will also find marshals (from Telford Rotary Club) and signage along the way to make sure you do not get lost. Our roving marshals will be able to repair simple problems, (such as punctures), although we do ask that you make sure that your bike is roadworthy before setting off.

If you want to take part but do not have a bike, or if you know someone in that situation who might be tempted to join you, consider hiring a bike from The Bicycle Hub, who will be providing marshal support throughout the morning. The Jackfield starting point is at the Hub’s premises in Fusion so you could pre-book a bike and pick it up while signing in (they’ll be making an exception to their usual bike hire hours).

It costs £5 for adult riders to register for the event, with entry free for the under 16s. Any rider under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult on the day and will remain their responsibility at all times. Riders under the age of 16 must wear cycle helmets, and we recommend that adults do the same.

All participants must undertake to raise sponsorship for Severn Hospice, although no minimum amount is required.

So if you fancy taking part in a gentle ride through beautiful countryside in support of a fantastic cause, sign up now.
