Cambrian Crusade
The Cambrian Crusade is over for another year! Our thanks go to Pete Bird and his team at The Bicycle Hub for putting together a fantastic event.
Our intrepid cyclists set off from Ironbridge at midnight and rode through the night to arrive at Barmouth early in the morning of Sunday 1 August. There were some bumps and scrapes along the way but most of the riders were able to finish the event.
This really is a special ride as the cyclists sweep through the valleys of mid-Wales while dawn breaks before arriving at the coast for a well-deserved breakfast. The total distance covered is 100 miles making the event a test of stamina and fitness, concentration and skill.
Congratulations to all of the cyclists, and thanks again to everyone who stayed up late or got up (very) early to man checkpoints, hand out refreshments and provide support to the riders. We don’t have many photos to show you as the first six hours of the event took place in darkness, but the Bicycle Hub have some shots here (and also provided the picture on the left showing three riders leaving the checkpoint at the 67 mile mark as the light started to creep in).
If this event sounds like your kind of challenge why not join us in 2011 for the third Cambrian Crusade? In the meantime The Great Big Bike Ride and our first ever Duathlon take place in September.
