Facts and Figures
Severn Hospice cares for almost 2500 patients a year, approximately a thousand of whom will have been referred in previous years and will be receiving ongoing care.
In the financial year ending in April 2010, 1,447 people were referred to Severn Hospice for care.
More than a quarter of these were referred straight to our Hospice at Home service.
Over one third of our referrals came from Telford and Wrekin Borough, 7% from Montgomeryshire and the rest from Shropshire.
475 people received care as in-patients in our Hospices at Shrewsbury and Telford. On average they stayed with us for 14 days. Around 35% of our in-patients were discharged home after staying with us.
We cared for around 78 people per week at our Day Hospices in Newtown, Shrewsbury and Telford. This number is slightly lower than for the previous year due to the severe weather in January and February 2010.
Our Hospice at Home team supported 298 patients in their own homes, undertaking 1873 home visits.
Over 250 people attended our out-patient clinics in Shrewsbury and Telford.
Two of our patients were aged 19 or under while 1151 were aged 60 or older. Two of our patients were over 100 years old.
