Donation hits the right notes for Severn Hospice
Posted on Jan 19, 2012
We have been given a beautiful Eavestaff baby grand piano which we are hoping to sell at our Mardol shop in Shrewsbury.
The piano was donated by relatives of John William Tuck from Priorslee in Telford after he sadly passed away last year.
The family wanted to support the hospice because we cared Mr Tuck’s wife before she died.
John’s son Simon Tuck said: “My mum Margaret was involved with the hospice and later died at the hospice in Shrewsbury. She was loved and cared for at a time in her life when we, as a family, appreciated it.
“Dad, who sadly died on December 6, had always talked about giving the piano to the hospice but sadly never got round to it. The piano has been in the family at least 80 years and had been my granddad’s 21st birthday present.
“We hope through giving the piano to the hospice it raises a lot of money to help fund whatever is needed.”
Becky Griffiths, manager at Severn Hospice’s Mardol and Wyle Cop shops said: “A piano like this is quite rare, we’ve certainly never had anything like this donated before.
“We’ve already had a lot of interest in the piano; people can see that it is a high quality piece and part of our musical heritage. These types of items don’t come along very often so I don’t think it will be with us very long. Given its age it’s in good condition, you can tell it has been well loved.”
The piano will be on display at our shop in Mardol for the next couple of weeks. Anyone thinking of buying the piano can register their interest by calling 01743 233 431. We will accept sealed bids over £1900 until Monday 30 January. The winning bid will then be notified by phone before Friday 3 February.
