Christmas cash bonanza for lucky Shropshire resident

Posted on Jan 5, 2012

A lucky Shropshire resident has hit the jackpot after showing his support for Severn Hospice.

Congratulations to Ray Norris from Hanwood who scooped the £5,000 top prize after taking part in our Lottery Christmas raffle.

The bumper prize pot was one of 200 cash prizes up for grabs in the festive draw, which helps raise vital funds to support our work caring for patients with incurable illnesses.

With a record number of tickets sold across Shropshire and Mid Wales this year’s Christmas Raffle was the most successful ever, raising over £120,000 for the hospice.

Retired vet Ray, who received the news he had won two days before his wife’s birthday, said: “It was a bit of a surprise to say the least when we found out we had won.

“We’ve been a part of the Severn Hospice Lottery for a number of years. We first started doing it to support the Hospice and never thought we’d actually win.”

Severn Hospice Lottery director Adam Nicholls said: “Many congratulations to Ray and all of those who won a prize in this year’s Christmas raffle.

“I would like to thank everyone who bought a ticket for the bumper prize draw for helping to make it such a fantastic success. Our supporters have helped us raise a record amount which will go straight to supporting our caring teams across Shropshire and Mid Wales.

“Our weekly Lottery is an easy way for people to get behind a local good cause, with the added benefit of being in with a chance of winning one of 200 cash prizes every week.”
