Christmas at Severn Hospice

Posted on Nov 17, 2011

Nurses Helen Duce and Suzanne Davies talk about the time they have spent caring for patients on Christmas Day.

‘You want to make it the best Christmas ever for the patients. Bringing in as many relatives as we can, the dog, everyone to make it a special day. We give the patients presents and have a meal together. The ward is beautifully decorated  and Father Christmas comes round handing out gifts, we even have volunteers to help.

It is a very quiet day with a gentle atmosphere, even with so many people around. We do our best to get people well enough to send them home to spend Christmas with their families. Christmas Day at the Hospice is a lovely and enjoyable day, it is so nice to spend that time with the patients. We never close our doors, we are always here for our patients and their families, it is a privilege to care for them on Christmas Day.’
