Greenfingered volunteers transform our gardens
Posted on Oct 27, 2011
We were thrilled to welcome almost 100 members of Capgemini Aspire’s Coolgen Portfolio to our Telford site recently. As part of Capgemini’s Community Programme the team volunteered their time in our gardens, transforming a large banked area by the Day Hospice.
The area was created during the building of the Hospice in 2006 to provide a sheltered patio area for Day Hospice patients. Since then our small team of volunteer gardeners have created beautiful flower beds in many areas of our grounds but limited resources meant they would not have been able to turn their attention to the bank for at least another 18 months.
Thanks to Capgemini the entire bank has now been dug over and thousands of bulbs have been planted to provide a burst of colour next spring. The next phase of development will see the team adding plants and shrubs to ensure year-round interest.
Our Day Hospice patients, volunteers and staff are all thrilled by the change in their view and are looking forward to seeing the first green shoots coming through.
Our heartfelt thanks go to all the Capgemini volunteers who made this transformation possible. They worked incredibly hard in unyielding, rocky ground and even had to resort to pickaxes to plant the bulbs in some areas. We are looking forward to welcoming them back next year so they can see the fruits of their labours for themselves.
The gardens at both our Shrewsbury and Telford sites are maintained by volunteers and we welcome offers of help, especially with larger projects.
