Sainsburys fundraising continues to soar

As the official adoption of Severn Hospice by Sainsburys in Shrewsbury moves into it’s final months, the team have been taking a step back to reflect on everything that has been achieved so far.

Severn Hospice was chosen to be the store’s charity in it’s anniversary year following a public vote. The two organisations started working together in June 2009 with Lisa Miller, Public Relations Co-Ordinator for the branch, leading the way.

In addition to continuing their long standing policy of donating fresh flowers to the Hospice, the Sainsburys team has undertaken a wide range of fundraising activities, generating over £8,000 in just nine months. In-store activities have included raffles and themed days and Lesley Newbury and Richard Lothian took part in a sponsored headshave, while many of the staff joined the 2009 Midnight Walk.

Customers have been kept up to date on progress via a large community board in the store featuring pictures, newspaper clippings and a target.

Lisa said ‘We’ve had a great partnership and worked well together. It’s been a really good year – all the staff have been involved. Customers chose the Hospice and we have had loads of feedback from the community board. They like it because it’s a local charity, it’s part of the community.

‘It’s amazing how much we’ve raised. As a store we never thought we’d get to that total but it’s still coming in and we’ve still got two months. It’s a really good boost for the town.’

Lucy Proctor, Community Fundraising Manager for Severn Hospice, added ‘Working with the team from Sainsburys has been a fantastic experience. We have been so impressed by the way they have all got involved and worked together. We are looking forward to the next two months and would like to thank them for all that they have already achieved.’
