Volunteer gardeners transform our grounds

The gardens at Severn Hospice are overseen by Kristian Booth, who maintains them with the support of a small but willing team of volunteers. With large sites to look after at both Shrewsbury and Telford, the team can get stretched sometimes - particularly when the combination of wet and hot weather leads to a sudden burst of growth!

We were therefore delighted to welcome an extra team of volunteers to the Hospice in Telford for the day. Despite the occasional downpour, the volunteers worked for many hours to clear overgrown beds and banks ready for planting.

Other volunteers included friends and relatives of the regular Hospice team, including Chief Executive Paul Cronin and his son Tom.

The team had a great day, with Daniel from Midlands Co-Operative saying ‘I’ve loved it. I’ve never done much gardening before and I like making it look nicer for the people who are here.’ His colleague Dot added ‘The Hospice is absolutely fantastic, busy but peaceful. It feels like we know everyone already.’

The day went so well that we’re doing it all over again on Wednesday 29 July. If you can spare a full day or a half to come and get stuck into a really challenging garden, please contact us using the feedback form below or call 01952 221 351 and ask for Wendy Jones.

In the meantime we would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who came along and helped today.
