Midnight walk draws a crowd
Posted on Jun 24, 2009
Hundreds of women had a fantastic time on the streets of Telford on 21 June but they weren’t partying, they were raising money for Severn Hospice. Supported by a team of over 80 volunteers they walked through the night. Their 10 mile circular walk started at Midnight following an energetic warm up.
Thanks to the men and women who helped out as marshals, checkpoint assistants, pace setters and sweepers, warm up leaders and in loads of other ways. A special thanks for Raynet (which is a group of radio amateurs) who provided communications links all round the course. Last year this event raised £16,000. This year we’re hoping to smash that figure.
There is still time to sign up for the Midnight Walk in Shrewsbury which kicks off at the Prostar Stadium (STFC ground) at midnight on 11 July. A checkpoint on the route is our Shrewsbury Hospice and walkers will pass through the grounds in the early hours of 12 July, our 20th birthday.
We are also looking for a few extra marshals to help to keep the walkers safe so if ten miles is too far for you but you would like to be part of this truly special event, contact us today at appeals@severnhospice.org.uk or by calling 01743 354 450.
